Reaction to animatic/storyboard

One of the biggest bits of feedback we could use was that we didn't manage to meet our aim. We set out in the beginning with the aim of creating something that would give a realistic initial idea. This was not met for a number of reasons. There was no titles, sound, slogans etc. So it looked just looked like some images on a power point, which is what it basically was. What we have now decided to do is to film some actual and original footage and make an initial mock up to then get a better idea of how it works.

Animatic Storyboard

We decided to do our story board in the form of Clipart style. We find that this gives us a much more realistic and better idea of how the film is going to look. Although it can be helpfull to have a drawn story board, i find that they cannot give a full sense of what it will look like.

Proposed Film Concept

The original idea we had for our teaser trailer came in a series of events showing the inevitable disaster of a cal and loving relationship.
Here is the basic plot lay out of our idea;
1) A calm smooth opening showing a couple picnicking with a beautiful country side view.
2) A kidnapper arrives and takes the wife after attacking and knocking the man unconscious.
3) The husband's inevitable realisation occurs with no help being offered from the local constabulary.
4) Against all his better wishes he decides to take revenge and find his girlfriend
5) The husband rescues his girlfriend and the they let the happy times role on.

This is somewhat similar to Todorov's Theory of Narrative;Todorov's theory is a basic structure for all narratives. In this theory he states that films and programmes all begin with an equilibrium, a calm period. Then agents of disruption cause disequilibrium (something bad happens, in my case the man's girlfriend gets kidnapped), a period of un-settlement and disquiet (His realisation of this and his struggle to cope). This is then followed by a renewed state of peace and harmony for the protagonists and a new equilibrium brings the chaos to an end.(Our Antagonist taking revenge for his girlfriend's kidnapping)

Teaser Trailer research

All of the teaser trailers that we researched are shown below. (using YouTube)
They all share similar conventions such as the quick fades in and out of black, dialogue over the black cut scenes and also some text, i.e. production companies, slogans etc. The only issue that occurs is with the teaser trailer for 'Shutter Island'; the time length is too long and it also gives too much away about the plot of the film. This is more like trailer than a teaser trailer.
One of the most common conventions and key ideas of the heading "Teaser Trailer" is the word 'Teaser'. The whole point of a teaser trailer is that it teases you without giving too much, if any, of the plot away. This means that clips will be arranged out of chronological order mixed in with fades, titles, dramatic music and dialogue all with the aim of building suspense in the audience to make them want to find out what they just saw was all about.
